This year in computing we will study the following areas:


What is Digital Literacy:

Digital Literacy is all about having the skills and knowledge to be an effective, safe and responsible user of a range of computer systems.​

Whenever you use a computer (in Computing lessons, other lessons, or in your own spare time), it’s important that you put your digital literacy skills into practice.


Keeping Organised:

It’s important to keep your files and folders well organised to ensure you can find things in the future.
You will need to learn how to master the following skills in computing to stay organised:

  • Organising Files and Folders​
  • Renaming​
  • Moving​
  • Deleting​
  • Searching your documents

The Keyboard and shortcuts.

You will want to familiarize yourself with the key areas of the keyboard shown above – especially if your used to using a mobile device.

Control keys – used for alternative functions. For example hold Ctrl and press C at the same time to copy

Navigation keys – used to move the cursor

Function keys – Context sensitive keys that change what they do depending on the application you have open.

Typing keys – lowercase by default, can be made upper case by holding the shift Key.
